I like 2D slightly better in general, but most definitly in regard to Mortal Kombat. MK5 makes me wish XBox would convert MK3 Ultimate. However there are some decent 3D games like SoulEdge or Dead or Alive 3. Killer Instinct was a nice compromise between the two; 3D graphics but with 2D gameplay.

Sorry guys, fighters, are my LEAST favorite genre of video games. Of course I've played many as a teenager, but I could never get into using controls that never represent the visuals on screen. up, up, left, right, down, X, trianlge, left1, left2, shake your rump, and your fighter does one thing not related in any way to those directions or buttons?!?


OOOPS forgot, this whole post is a lie, as I do love the N64 wrestling games! So I guess 3D!
 
Alas you're wrong there Puck. DOA3 responds to your controls just like you'd want IRL. Want to do a roundhouse punch? Curve the left analog or D-pad from back around the bottom and then forward. Most of the basic moves correspond to stick/d-pad placement and button timing. How hard or soft you press the buttons correspond to the quickness and strength of your hits. Most 3D fighters are that way.

Fighting games are one of my favourite genres and I love 3D and 2D equally. I remember back in the early 90's when I went out and bought an SNES purely for the fact that Street Fighter II came out on a console. That's how much I loved that series (still do! SF3: 3rd Strike represent).

I also think it's why I loved the Dreamcast so much, it was THE system to own if you were a fighting game fan. Soul Calibur, Dead Or Alive 2, Power Stone 1 & 2, Street Fighter 3, SF: Alpha 3, Marvel VS Capcom 1 & 2, Capcom VS SNK 1& 2, KOF series, Last Blade 1 & 2, Guilty Gear X, Virtua Fighter 3tb, etc.

I can't wait for Capcom VS SNK 2: EO for XBL. WOOT! :D
