The Apparat Organ Quartet - my latest weird music find
It seems lately I've been listening to a lot of weird world music stuff lately like Afro-Celt Sound System or 1 GIANT LEAP but I think this is the most unusual group I've heard in quite a while.
Someone at work loaned me a CD by Icelandic composer Johann Johannsson called Englaborn wich had some interesting small orchestra sounds on it(string quartet, piano, organ, percussion and electronics). I read that Johann started a band called Apparat Organ Quartet that released a self titled album so I decided to check them out. It's really different.
From the description from a reviewer: Apparat Organ Quartet is 4 men operating ancient, highly customized electric music machines, including cheap home organs, Farfisas and Russian synthesizers. And one drummer. I swear they have multiple organs tuned all over the place. One almost sounds like a deep electric guitar.
It reminds me of Sigur Ros, Mum, and the sound track to K-PAX.
