Strider 2 (PSX) "Quickie" Review
Ok, I've been wanting this game for a long time, but didn't want to pay a full $50 bones for it back when it first came out. As time passed I forgot all about it untill this past Xmas when I dusted off the old Genesis and played the original in it's 16-Bit glory.
The thought of playing a sequel to a classic game I loved filled me with thoughts of what a joy Castlevania: SotN was and what it had done for that series.
Upon much reflection I decided to find a brand new copy and thus the only place I could find one at a reasonable price (under $20) was Ebay, so I took that route. I received my Strider 2 still shrink-wrapped and in pristine condition on this Saturday night (1/25/03).
The updated 3-D polygonal backgrounds where nicely meshed with the 2-D sprite based characters. I immediately thought "Classic Capcom" and dove right in. Since action games usually take a "trial and error" process to figure out the patterns to levels, enemies, and especially end bosses I played cautiously wanting to enjoy my first experience in this resurrection/ continuation of an old favourite.
:scrump:
Boy was I wrong! It took me less than 2 hours to beat it "cautiously" and approximately 27 minutes to beat it the second time through!
Unlimited continues, crappy enemy AI, easy to figure out patterns, short levels, and simplistic boss battles made this a waste of my $20 bucks.
Maybe I'm being harsh due to my nostalgia and love for the INCREDIBLY HARD but ultimately satisfying original, but when you follow up a true badass action game you better deliver. In this case Capcom simply did not.
I expected: :scrump:
I got: :bam:
My feelings/rating?
