Remember this console???

It was the supergrafx by Nec released in 1989 in Japan only. It was basically a nec pc engine with some minor graphic improvements.

Aside from, in my opinion, the best version of Ghouls and Ghosts, it also had arcade adaptions of 1941 and others.

I bought one last year off www.goldenshop.com, and I love it. Too bad this console didn't last that long, as it only has about a handful of games for it.
The other cool thing about this console, was that it also played pc engine games!

Edit: I had a picture of this console, but could not get the attachment to work.....

I kind of remember. Nec released a bunch of things that didn't catch on, like the Turbo Duo and the PC-FX.

Re: Remember this console???

The duo ruled surpreme in Japan. remember the duo version of "Dracula X"
mANY castlevania gamers believed this was superior to even the snes version, CASTLEVANIA 4.

It was a shame that NEC didn't have the finances or third party suppourt to release some of their greater Japan games stateside.
They might still be around had they!

I believe that one of the NEC machines had the best version on Street Fighter as well. PC-Engine, I think. It was kind of cool to see games on those tiny cards. Reminded me of the special games that were made for the Sega master system.

Yes, the pc engine had TWO version of street fighter. The original then named, "Fighting Street" and the afrementioned one.

Although, the second Street Fighter for pc engine was only nice to play with the newly released six button controller that NEC had made.

I also very clearly remember there was a whole argument with the pc engine as to whether or not it was actually a 16-bit console. Don't remember the facts, but I really couldn't care less. I loved it, and still play it today.
The Bonk games were a welcome change for the traditional platformer mascot, Mario and Sonic. Personally, I enjoyed the Turbo more than either the Genesis or the Super Nes. It was a shame that NEC didn't have:

Retail suppourt
Well know third party publishers
and had the finanances to market this thing properly....

Re: Remember this console???

The Turbo Grafx-16 had two 8 bit processors thus not being a true 16 bit system. As to the charge that somehow Bonk wasn't a traditional platformer but somehow Sonic was I don't see it. Because IMO it's the reverse. Bonk was alot like the old platformers with his jumping, eating things to get bigger and whatnot while Sonic focused on speed something not really akin to what a platformer is all about, jumping platforms.

Agreed. That would be like saying that the Sega Saturn was 64bit because it had two 32 bit risc processors. I believe they were two Hitachi processors, if I am not mistaken. Have an old magazine about the technical aspects of Saturn, just not in front of me.... Remember how the programmers for most games, except Sega, complained about how hard it was to code for the Saturn.

And I also agree with you about Bonk.
Seriously, it is SO nice to be able to have an intelligent conversation, yet still have fun on a forum. At my old banned forum, when ever I attempted to make an intelligent relevent thread, someone would start arbitrarily bashing me, and then it would be closed. I hate those damn bastards.....
