PS2 RPG's in general

I was wondering if anyone knew of some PS2 RPG's that are actually good. So far all I can remember being good is Xenosaga and I just rented Darkcloud 2 which is quite nice. Now I do happen to be a rare breed of PS2 Gamer that despises FFX. So that piece of crap is out of the question I dont know if the problem is the lack of GOOD RPG's in the market today or if its just the lack of RPG's period. Either way im itching for one. I even restarted my game of Chrono Trigger and FF4

Don't worry I hated FFX myself aswell. The really good RPG's on the PS2 are:

Suikoden III, Xenosaga, Dark Cloud 1 & 2, .hack Part 1: Infection, .hack Part 2: Mutation, Grandia II (if you have a DC get that ver. instead), Grandia Xtreme, Kingdom Hearts, ICO, Wild Arms 3

I've played all of these from a couple of hours to 30-40 hours and can attest to their worth. I can't attest for another person's personal taste but I do know what a good JRPG needs and these games have it in varying degrees.

Suikoden 3 really stands out in that bunch as a classic and if you've enjoyed Skies of Arcadia (DC & GC) then you'll love Suikoden 3.

I am a true RPG fan at heart, but Xbox isn't really supplying. Morrowind was great, and KotOR is really fun but it is more of an adventure game.. I am starving for RPGs and I need one. I am thinking of buying a ps2 (for the second time)

I loved Grandia 2, Chrono Cross, FF9. Now which ones will I like for ps2? I saw my friend play .Hack and it just looked like a newer version of Time Stalkers, which I HATED, all the dungeons make me mad. I was thinking of XenoSaga and Dark Cloud 2 (like I was the first time I was gunna get a ps2) so are they great games? I am probably gunna have to blow the rest of my cash to get the ps2 though.. I am gunna upgrade my PC, maybe.

I could always sell my GC and the 4 games I have, could probably get the system for that! I will be missing out on Crystal Chronicles but oh well. The only thing holding me back is will it last? Seeing that ps3 is getting closer and all. Need some advice, I am in dire need for a JRPG, this time I am serious about getting the ps2 though lol.

The PS3 isn't going to come out till late 2005 at the earliest. Expect 2006. If I were you I'd get a PS2 and check out Xenosaga, Suikoden 3, Dark Cloud 2, Kingdom Hearts, ICO, & Wild Arms 3. Also you should look to the giant RPG library that the PS1 has and play those as well. You can easily get most of them for less than $20!!! I myself have over 50 JRPG's for the PS1 and couldn't be happier. The ones that you should really track down are (aside from the ones you listed):

Dragon Warrior VII
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy Tactics
Grandia
Lunar
Lunar 2
Persona 2
Suikoden
Suikoden 2
Tactics Ogre
Thousand Arms
Vagrant Story
Valkyrie Profile
Wild Arms
Xenogears

I can't say enough about all those PS1 RPG's. They're classic games that any JRPGer shouldn't be without!

P.S. If you still have yet to play Skies of Arcadia then go pick up Skies of Arcadia: Legends for the Gamecube right away! This game is one of the best RPG's to date!

Yeah I had Skies of Arcadia for Dreamcast, it was pretty good, but I never finished it

hm, well I guess I gotta decide to either upgrade my PC or get a ps2.. hard decision, but how long will this upgrade really last? My current vid card went out of date within a lil over a year. Hm, decisions decisions.

Also another PS2 RPG that I'm gonna go out and checkout is Arc The Lad: Twilight of the Spirits. It's just been released and RPGFan gives it a very good review 9/10: http://www.rpgfan.com/reviews/arcthelad4/arc4.html

Here's a snippet:

"In the time I spent with Arc the Lad: Twilight of Spirits, I remembered what was great about games like Skies of Arcadia, Grandia II, Final Fantasy VI and Lunar: the fact that despite all the advances in technology and gameplay mechanics, there’s a certain magic that makes an RPG a classic. Maybe it is the attention to detail or the scope of the quest, or perhaps the hero or heroine and the odds they face, no matter how insurmountable they may be. Maybe I’m wrong, but I feel that playing in a world with characters whose anxiety, elation, sorrow and triumph are tangible makes for the most rewarding experience. As such, I feel that Twilight of Spirits holds the same magic as most of these time honored classics. Will it be for everyone? I leave that answer to you…"

I'm wondering what RPG's are you guys currently playing? I've just played about 5-6 hours of Suikoden as I intend to play the whole series (I, II, III) in the next couple of months. The fact that you can import your saves to the following sequals and it changes certain aspects of the game really intrigues me.

I liked FFX, i really wanna try Xenosaga, that looks good. I would buy it but my damn dog ate my retainer and i had to sell my ps2

Yeah Arc The Lad seems great, my friend got it and he says it is his favorite ps2 RPG yet. He is on the last guy, Suikoden III is his second favorite, then FFX. I gotta start playing em all

Dragon Warrior VIII looks really fun, which also reminds me that I wanna play Dark Cloud 2.
