Panasonic 3DO m2....

As I am sure some of you are aware, the M2 planned as both an add-on and a stand alone machine. It was reported that it would strenghten aspects of the 3do that suffered when compared to consoles of its' time, Playstation, Saturn and 64.

Unfortunetly, Panasonic sold the technology to Mastushiti, who used it for computers, or something, and was never produced...
Panasonic's reason for axing this project, according to research on the net, is fear of competing with the established Sony, and feeling as if the market was too competitive....

Anyway, today, it is considered the holy grail of all 3do collectors, as unfinished machines occassionally show up on e-bay. I say this alot, but I feel that, based on reading some of the specifications of this console, that it really could have given Sony a run for its' money.....

Instead of releasing this product, Trip, the president and ceo, ran the company intot the ground. And eventually sold of most of its' more popular franchises, like High heat baseball, and Army Men....

Let's all take a moment of silence, to remember the 3do....

Re: Panasonic 3DO m2....

The dino vs the chick screens looked impressive back in the day.

As for 3DO, I only played crash and burn when it was first released. A buddy of mine rented the 3DO. Anyways, that game was simply amazing back then. And their controller had an earphone jack which was neat.

Re: Panasonic 3DO m2....

What sucked was the you had to daisy chain those freaking controllers to play multi player games....

Here are my fav 3do games::
Gex
Wing Commander 3
the Horde
Street Fighter 2 Turbo
Hell: a cyber punk thriller
And I am sure there are more, but it is late, what more do you want??

Re: Panasonic 3DO m2....

Yes, sky, but seeing as you have claimed that you have some old 3do mags, I am sure you already knew that...

Anyway, it was considered the most expensive console at its' time. By the time the price lowered, the impending release of Saturn and PS was near....

Oh, and three different companies manufactured variations of the 3do:

Panasonic had the original FZ1, which many consider to be the best model.

Goldstar model was the most problematic, what with the tray and cheap components.

Panasonic later released another cheaper model called the FZ1. It is considerd the cheapest, but is less picky about burned games...

And who could forget the Sanyo japan only model, or was that Samsung...

Nah, not from that far back. All those screens were from the M2. I knew about M2, but 3DO was way back in the days when I didn't have any money to buy mags.....hey, reminds me of today.

Edit, and prices up here are a lot different than the States.
