Next Gen Wars....
*These are just predictions, and should be taken as a grain of salt. Maybe some will come true. But it's all for fun....
I honestly don't see Microsoft beating out Sony. Sony has way too much momentum going in, and their install base is just too overwhelming. In terms of hardware, I see Microsoft battling Sony’s technology with brute strength, and because of this, Microsoft’s hardware will max out far sooner than Sony’s. When it comes to Software, now that Sony will have a console that does not take from the artists, I see more and more exclusive games on their console, as oppose to Microsoft. But I still see the argument of “Sony’s machine is too hard to develop for” all over again. It’s an excuse for lack of talent, in my opinion.
Microsoft will be banking more and more on first party support, such as Rare, and unless they flat out, buy companies, they will struggle to get third party support. Developers such as EA, Ubisoft, etc. will always be around and share their wealth to both consoles. Of course, Halo 3, PGR3, and possibly Perfect Dark 2 will lead Microsoft's assault, while Gran Turismo 5, a new GTA, and possible Metal Gear will lead Sony's attack. Big titles from Sega, Capcom and Namco, will make bigger appearances on Sony's machine. ICO 2 will raise the bar in terms of artistry in videogames. Gran Turismo 5 will either destroy all competition, or fail horribly. Halo 3 will not generate enough new fans, and the series will be put on hold.
As for Nintendo…hardware wise, they’ll do their own thing, as always. They’ll make a console that caters to their own needs, (with a totally bizarre controller) and not to other developers, and because of this, they’ll die and quick death. No sticking around like the Gamecube did. They’ll bank on what we already know. A new Mario, a new Zelda and Metroid. Capcom might not be around to help them out this time around.
I see Capcom, Sega, and Namco making big returns, but this will benefit Microsoft and Sony more than it will Nintendo. Street Fighter 4 will make a huge return, but will be overshadowed by the tech and artistry of the next Virtua Fight, Soul Calibur, DOA, and Tekken. Surprisingly, DOA will come out on Sony's machine first, then all Tecmo software will slowly become Sony exclusives.
Sony: by a large margin > Microsoft: will battle to the sweet end, but never really threatening Sony's empire > Nintendo: becoming third party, only because Nintendo feels the need to go their own direction
In a dream world, it would be Dreamcast 2 > everything else.
