My Game Journal

"My Game Journal" is gonna be about what game(s) I play and what I accomplished during the time spent. You might not give a shit or you might be interested in what game I played each day and what I did. You can ask me questions and in general talk about the games I've played. If this seems self-serving it is. I want to give my gameplaying more meaning and fulfillment and this is a good way to do it. Kinda like a self detailed game playing tracker.

What Games I played today: NCAA Football 2005 (I play this game the most)

I'm currently in season 4 of my Florida State dynasty and I've been tweaking the gameplay sliders everygame to get the game to be as realistic as possible. This is no easy task because any hardcore NCAA gamer will tell you the 2005 edition has a TON of flaws/bugs/glitches/and CPU cheats that make it hard to get realistic gameplay and stats out of the game. :(
Nontheless I'm a college football fanatic and have to have my fix!

So far I've won 3 straight national championships, had the number 1 recruiting class 3 years in a row and have a record of 42-1 only losing @ Michigan in my second year because the Home Field Advantage caused the composed system to rattle the hell out of my Redshirt Freshmen QB's Xavier Lee & Drew Weatherford. So I couldn't pass for shit and they beat me like 20-14.

I've been continually tweaking the sliders and have still yet to find a way for the CPU to improve it's pass blocking from the blitzing corners. You see there's a BIG TIME flaw in this game where the CPU doesn't recognize blitzers from the corners well. So more often than not if they don't have a back to block my LB or CB I've got me a sack. In real life the QB would recognize the blitz and either check off to a run or a quick pass. And since the CPU can't seem to do that I can stop teams from having over 50-100 yards a game by getting 7-15 sacks a game. Sure I could not blitz from the corners but that'd be a real pain and too tempting to do anytime I need a bigtime stop.

So what have I done instead? I'm slowly pushing the CPU's Offensive sliders up to 20 (highest). That means their QB accuracy is currently at 19, Pass Blocking at 20, WR Catching at 16, Running Ability at 15, and Run blocking at 20. All this on the highest difficulty setting of Heisman with 8 minute quarters (which give pretty realistic results in the amount of plays per team).

By putting those sliders way up it makes it so the CPU Offense can get some serious yardage by either running smart running plays, not stupid shit like reverses or off tackle draws that I just blow up in the backfield, or good pass plays that are quick and effective against my blitzes (due to the high QB accuracy & WR catching).

OK enough pregame shit I've given you to get a gist of what playing this game is like, down to the nitty gritty:

Today I played 2 games in the dynasty, game 4 of the season @ Clemson which is an in conference game (unavoidable). They suck pretty bad and have dropped to a 1 star team (1-6 scale) EASports did them bad this year and had them ranked a 4 star team with an overall rating of B-(which is pretty crappy). Since Clemson is a top 20 team this year it was a slap in the face to them and Clemson seems to go to crap in just about everyone's dynasties.

Overall they're a B- while I'm an A+ in this season. I'm undefeated at 3-0 and #1 in both the coaches and Media polls. Pretty clear I was gonna dominate and I did to the tune of 48-0. I could have poured it on more because I was up 42-0 at halftime, scoring 28 points in the 2nd Qtr. But I chose to just eat up clock, run the hell out of the ball and kick field goals instead of trying to run up the score. Mind you my 2nd team offense & defense played the entire 2nd half and I still was shutting them down.

After this game I tweaked the gameplay sliders to make the CPU offense & defense tougher and it showed in my second game as I played in-state nemesis and current #3 in the polls Miami.

The game was played at Tallahassee (FSU) and was a VERY tight game with the 2 defenses dominating. We both had fewer than 250 yards in the game. After a scoreless first quater I scored mid way through the 2nd Qtr by running the maryland-I and power-T down to their 30 and then surprised them on a 3rd & 2 with a play action pass to my TE out of the power T set. FSU 7 - UM 0

After I shut them down I again marched down the field using my power running game when I threw an ill advised across the field pass that their right CB intercepted right in front of my WR and took it to the house for a 65 yard TD. That tied the score FSU 7- UM 7

On the very next drive my QB was hit hard and fumbled the ball on my 30 and they jumped on it. Luckily I shut them down and they had to settle for a field goal. Score at the half: Miami 10 - FSU 7

In the second half they seemed to do better offensively and were able to move the ball down the field relatively well, problem was my D would hunker down and hold them when they got inside the 20. Result? Another a field goal by Miami and they led 13-7 going into the 4th Qtr.

Early in the 4th I was able to move the ball to about their 35 but had 2 running plays snuffed and a 3rd down pass sail wide of the WR. I decided to go for the gusto on 4th down since I had already missed a long field and called a 5 WR set that I use from time to time for a big play. I hiked and threw the ball right as a blitzing LB hit me making the pass go all wobbly, luckily I took over the WR and jumped in front of 2 Miami CB's to catch the ball and get tackled in one fluid animation at the 2 yardline. Next play i called a FB iso up the gut and I tied the game at 13, with the extra point I was finally leading again FSU 14- UM 13.

Their offense sputtered a few times and my offense couldn't do jack so a good bit of time was wasted. They finally got the ball with 2:26 left at their 25.

They ran a few times for some yardage and then they converted a 4th down and 15 from their own 35! Motherfuckers!
Well they again were doing well and got to my 35 when again I held them to a 4th down attempt. They called a 4 WR set and I called my double corner blitz out of the Dime set. I barely missed sacking their QB and he had a man open at the 10! Oh shit! The pass was about to be caught when I dove with my Strong Safety and blocked the pass at the last second! WHEW!

That gave me the ball with 48 seconds left! Sure win huh? Nope, because they still had 2 timouts left and I couldn't just kneel the ball and run out the clock. I ran on first down, they called TO. I ran on second down and stupidly got shoved out of bounds, saving them a TO. And on 3rd down I ran again and they stopped me short and called a TO. So here I am on 4th down from my 42 with 19 seconds left and I HAVE to punt them back the ball or else be an idiot.

Luckily I aim the punt perfectly and get it downed at their freaking 2 yard line! YES!

The very next play they try to pass from out of their own endzone and I sack the QB for a safety! FSU 16 - UM 14!

They're forced to kickoff to me and I kneel down to end the game! Very tight and tough game!
