Music

What music are y'all listening to?
I will listen to just baout everything, as long as it sounds good and has a nice beat. I hate rap and hate that almost all new country songs sound too much like pop music.

And since cds have been around since 1985, do yu feel it might be time for a new format?

The way it looks, with pirating and what not, they might be using dvds in the upcoming years.....

How does that change anything? DVDs can be ripped and pirated just as easily. Plus DVDs have way too much space to waste on a regular sized CD. So unless Artists start making 50+ song albums or releasing DVDs with music data that's way huge there's no real advantage to switch IMO.

On top of the fact that DVD stands for Digital Video Disc.

Re: Music

Nah...cds will be around several more decades...the only thing that may come into mainstream will be those minidics that sony tried to push years again...but didn't really catch on at that time.

Re: Music

I was hoping, a while back, that dvds would include the album and all the music videos that come out.

Re: Music

Yeah but then how many artists have a bunch of videos? Not many IMO and wouldn't that price the music video DVD out of CD prices? PPL already bitch that CDs cost too much, how many want to spend more on a DVD hybrid that won't work in their car's CD player?

Re: Music

I for one am not gonna buy a Standard that wont work in my cd player or MY car mp3 ; cd player ... i listen to just about everything now adays ... but there are some exclusions... ska,punk,emo,country.numetal...

I remember those mini discs. I still have some discs and a player. If I am not mistaken, these mini discs are big in Japan right now for music. So, like you said, I am sure we will see them again....

I agree that dvds are just as easy to rip as cds. If it is digital, then there is way to rip it. However, at my local Best Buy, they are already pushing what they call SACD. They are basically a regular cd with 5.1 sound like most dvds.
I have heard them, and the improvement in sound is minute. Not worth upgrading.....

As with ALL new technology, peolple are going to bitch about the cost. Loook at those dvd recorders. They have finally gotten cheap enough that even I am looking at them....

Re: Music

dvd minidiscs are increaseing in popularity but i dont think they will use em for music cd's . and about includeing music videos ... usually the music videos come out AFTER the album ;) heh not always though.

Nope. DVD stands for Digital Versitile Disc. There already are a good amount of music DVD's on the market... look at them next time you are in Best Buy. They can handle a much more rich sound with totally uncompressed audio files and they can also contain a good amount more information like music videos, documentarys, ect... Most people will not buy them this early becuase they do not own (like myself) a grand audio system that would let you notice the diffrence in audio quality.

Re: Music

It's not cost efficient right now and I doubt it will be for a good while because the market would have to have ppl having DVD players as the norm instead of CD players, especially in their cars/replacing their portable CD players, and that's not happenning for a good 10 years IMO.
