Thornton plays Manuel who was sentenced to life in prison for shooting to death a clerk while participating in a liquor store robbery. After being in prison for 23 years he gets an unexpected early release. Following that the movie deals with his guilt and trying to think of a way to make up for what he did a long time ago.
It's a nice basic drama with good acting all around and concludes with a poetic ending involving Manuel and the nephew of the clerk he killed over 20 years ago. I'm not sure why this wasn't able to get a wide theatrical release. It's pace is a bit slow but still a good film IMO.
