Latest album you listened to?

What's the latest album you listened to? I don't mean a specific song but a whole album in whatever format that you listened to?

I recently got a new car w/ a CD player in it, my old car's tape player broke, and so I've been able to listen to music while I drive, something I used to do all the time and loved immensely.

I listened to "Jurrasic 5 - Quality Control" yesterday and "The Electric Hellfire Club - Burn Baby Burn" the day before.

This has got me thumbing through my old stash of CD's and rediscovering my collection. It's around a hundred CD's or so, pales in comparision to some of you *cough* Videodrome *cough*, but it's alot of Hip Hop & extreme metal music from the 90's and I'd forgotton how much I loved this stuff. It's got me thinking about tracking down Therion's "Vovin" an album I always wanted to get but forgot about over time.

I play CDs in my truck and on my work PC CD-Rom all the time. I actually bring a CD carrying case with me to work. :D

Some recent albums I've played all the way through are Loreena McKennitt: The Book of Secrets, Apparat Organ Quartet, Kenna: New Sacred Cow, and the two new Amethystium albums I bought recently.

Loreena McKennitt has a nice Celtic/World sound. The Mummers' Dance is a fantastic song.

Amythestium is a weird New Age Electronica one-man-band from Norway.

Kenna is a really good singer and is backed by drums and interesting synthesizer sounds.

Apparat Organ Quartet is a team of 4 keyboardists and 1 drummer with a unique sound that lies somewhere between Electronic and Industrial. Some faster songs like Romantika remind me of videogame music like what you'd hear in Megaman while slower heavier songs remind me of old horror film soundtracks like Phantasm or Dawn of the Dead.

Hmmm, well I just got a box of cd's I bought online a while ago and have been listening to, but the ones I have been listening to most from the group I bought are:

After Forever -Prison of Desire

Nightwish -Oceanborn

Nightwish -Angels fall First

I just took my GF to class and am now listening to Macross 7: Fire Bomber - Let's Fire!" It's the OST to the late 90's anime series "Macross 7" - it's very much Jpop with a twangy funk rock, pop rock feel with some folk, classic rock, and 80's metal feel to it.

latest albums ive listened to all the way through in the past few days:

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Pink Floyd - The Wall (discs 1 & 2)
Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head
Tool - Ænima
Foo Fighters - The Coulor and the Shape
Bush - Razorblade Suitcase
Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
Toadies - Rubbernecker

Today I listened to one of my personal favorite albums in my collection: Nile - Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka

It's brutal death metal with a heavy egyptian, summarian, & near eastern feel to it. It feels like listening to war or militarism in ancient times. Very aristocratic, hatefull, and the desire to destroy one's enemy! I love it!

My personal favorite of the album is the track Ramses Bringer of War it starts out with the horns of war summoning the soldiers and then explodes like carnage on the battlefield. Here's a small sample from amazon.com in wma format that lets you hear the horns right before the music explodes into fury!

The music has such strange instruments as: Damaru human skull drums, thigh bone flutes, turkish gongs, as well as tibetan monks performing chants, and incantations as well. Totally ****ed up!

And I think this dude's review is dead on:

"As a generalization most death/grind fans are looking for just that, deep guttural death metal vocals mixed with machine gun snares, pummeling double bass attacks, and grinding, speeding, "power of the chug" guitars. While Nile does exhibit these elements, they take death/grind into a whole new territory . By incorporating Egyptian themes, instruments, and chants into the mix, Nile gives an added flair to the stale death/grind scene with their album "Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren Ka." Tracks such as "Ramses Bringer of War" even add doses of melody among other things providing a fresh perspective on the hyper-blasting genre as perfected by the likes of Cryptopsy, Angelcorpse, and to a slightly lesser degree Krisiun. To sum things up Nile definitely brings an epic feel to death metal (although not to the extent some would go such as the godly Opeth) and is a welcome addition to a scene filled with Morbid Angel worshippers due to its fresh outlook. Their latest album "Black Seeds of Vengeance" continues the trend that "Amongst..." started and when listened to in succession Nile paints a vivid picture of death, vengeance, contemplation, and war that many bands are at a loss to produce no matter how "brutal" they may be. A worthwhile addition to any metal fans collection." - MagnusDiabolus

Vic, that clip sounded pretty sweet, but my god Nile's growling makes me sick, horrible vocals imo, no offence...

I generally hate growling, screaming is fine, but growling, bleh.

I have a couple exceptions such as Within Temptation and After Forever, but even then with them the growling is only to accent the singers and you can really understand them.

Growling aka guttural vocals are a main ingrediant of Death Metal and you like to listen to pompous, syphonic, prog-black metal. Big difference. I personally can tolerate the high pitched screeching of black metal but only for so much. My true first love in the extreme metal scene was and is Death Metal.

LOL, so they call it gutteral now eh? ;)

I'm not a big fan of Black metal, just one band that's all.

Where it's at fo me is Thrash, Gothic, Symphonic and Progressive metal.

And I put alot of emphasis on Gothic and Symphonic metal, I would freak without any Inkubus Sukkubus, Within Temptation and Nightwish, that would be horrible.

If you like Symphonic stuff you should check out Rob Dougan: Furious Angels.
