I need to buy a videocard!

...but I know nothing about what kind to buy. From what I've been told the best I can get for my POS PC is a Geforce2. I think I'll need a PCI card type, but I'm not sure. Configuring my PC for AGP confuses me aswell.

Here are my system specs:

Processor: AMD-K6-2 500 Mhz
RAM: 256 MB (Most my PC will allow)
Current Video Card: TridentBlade3D/MVP4 (63) it came w/ the PC

Is there any other info someone would need to help me in recommending a video card?

That’s about all you can get, if you get anything more then you will only get the performance amount your PC can handle and you will be bottle necked. As for AGP and PCI slots, if you can go AGP that’s what it's there for. If PCI is a must... it's a must, but hope that you don't have to go that route.

whats the point of a new vid card if your comps is so slow and low on ram ... it's like pointless. if u gonna get a new vid card u gonna need a new computer also

Exactly, I would suggest a motherboard+CPU combo before getting a GFX card. I got my AMD Athalon XP 1600+ and a sweet ass mother board for 150$. You could probably find them cheaper on something like www.pricewatch.com .

[Edit]
Just checked pricewatch and for the same price I paid for mine, you could get a more beefed combo.

$146 - Athlon XP 2200 with cpu, fan

Because I only have $60-70 to spend on it and I'd rather wait till x-mas to build a new PC (when I'll have the moola) In the meantime I'd like to have a better videocard so when I watch anime & play emu's I don't get stuttering/choppy playback like I do now. It's so bad that some stuff I have to "dumbdown" in virtualdub just to be able to watch it. UGH.
Right now I can order a AMD Radeon 9000 for $60 shipped. I'm going w/ that.

You guys also forgetting that If I went and bought a new motherboard/cpu combo I'd probably need a power source & probably a new case. That's pushing it near the $300 range. I'd rather wait and build a whole new top of the line PC for $700 then waste money on frankensteining this old pos. The videocard is just a stop gap for now.

Yep, and it'd cost me around $400, but why settle for that when 1. I don't have the cash for it now & 2. with $200-300 more I could have the PC I really want.
