How does dial up work?

I assume you need to get a fax modem? And do you pay your phone company for service?

Re: How does dial up work?

Fax modem? Also you're not limited to your phone company, you can use local or national companies for dial up as well. sometimes long distance companies as well.

Re: How does dial up work?

I'd say around $10-20 U.S. dollars. And Cable Broadband is usually $40-60 U.S.

What's the cost per month? I'm paying $60 for cable.

Dude....are you crazy....once you go cable, you never go back.....I think if i had to go back to dial-up *shudders* I just wouldnt even bother with the internet.

Re: How does dial up work?

That will be my only option, though. They don't have cable or dsl where I'm moving to.

Re: How does dial up work?

I still use dial-up, unfortunetly. I hate it. I am uncapable of watching most videos, and everytime I attempt to listen to music, either through launcast, or on here, it is constantly bufferinf just about every minute, or so. I am paying $10 through AOL, which I guess is not that bad.

And may I ask the obvious, WHERE in the blue hell are you moving that they don;t have cable?
Iraq? or close to my farm in Maryland?!!!

...apartment. They don't want cable lines running all over their walls. And I don't think DSL is availible.

So they don't have cable TV? or a Phone?

DSL only needs a standard phone line.

Cable runs on the normal cable line into your house/apartment.

Usually the only reason people can't have either is becuase the company that offers it dosen't cover the area they live in.

If that is the case, Sky, you should use satellite. I live in the miidle of nowhere on a farm, and we love Directv. The only thing, during inclement weather, the damn sservice will flaicker on and off. And with sat, they have made it harder to get illegal service, so there is no slipping the installer a $50, for the dirty channels.
