Home Theater Audio

Do any of you have a home theater set up?
I've wanted one for a good while, even more so when I got my big screen TV last fall. I've known for over a month now that I could afford one but hadn't really thought much about it untill looking at this weekend's paper. Circuit City is having an online sale between 11am-4pm M-F where select items are 20% off. I found out that the system I had been eyeing would sell for $159.99, due to the sale, so today I ordered it!
I'm hoping it get's here by Friday so I can have a party to celebrate! I ordered a GE 12 foot optical cable so i could hook up my Xbox to it and get crystal clear 5.1 surround sound from my games & DVD's! W00T!

Here's the spec's for those interested:

Re: Home Theater Audio

I just went directly digital with my DVD Player to Reciever connection instead of the normal red & white audio connections and holy crap has it improved dramaticly. I also got a DVD on home theater set up and now have my system totally optimized and running at it's peek performance which is a giant leap to what I had before when I was just tooling around with settings trying to figure out what needed what. I recommend something like that for you so that you get full use of your new system.

Re: Home Theater Audio

I already go digital with my TV since I use component cables from the Xbox & DVD player & since I've bought an optical cable for the HT system it'll be way better than standard (R&W) and even better than coaxial digital as well.

BTW what system do you have Aaron? Got any pics of the set up?

Re: Home Theater Audio

Oh I saw that shit at Walmart selling for $58 yesterday. I thought about buying it but the display they had looked so cheap and the fact that it was only 14W a speaker turned me off. It's not like I have a huge living room but I gotta think in longer terms since I won't be living her more than 1 more year.

Re: Home Theater Audio

I just my Home theater system about an hour ago from FedEx and I'm about to set it all up! w00t! I'm fucking excited as all hell to hear this system in action!

Re: Home Theater Audio

I was looking at a Sony at walmart, for like $300. I haven't looked at it for a awhile so I forget how many watts it pushed.

Re: Home Theater Audio

Re: Home Theater Audio

Congrats Vic, It doesn't matter how low-end a system is, it's still gonna be an incredible upgrade from the shit that is built in tv speakers.

Hell my system is fairly low end and when I first hooked it up it brought a tear to my eye.

I have a 300 dollar Kenwood 5.1, DTS, Pro-Logic system with 100 watts per channel totalling up to 600 watts total, all my components are totally digital hookups.

Re: Home Theater Audio

OMG! DTS 5.1 is so much better than DD 5.1!!! I watched Kill Bill Vol.1 DVD last night and turned on the DTS version in the menu and DAMN that shit fucking felt so much like being in the theater!
Not that Dolby digital sounds bad by any stretch of the imagination but DTS is so much fucking better!
