Nintendo to Re-launch Player's Choice

By: Axel Strohm and Alex Fraioli February 6, 2003 12:05 PM PST
Many of you might remember Nintendo's budget category, named Player's Choice, for N64 games. Nintendo has now confirmed that Player's Choice titles will also be available for the Gamecube starting February 9th in the U.S. and April 4th in Europe. The first games to get the Player's Choice treatment are Luigi's Mansion, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Pikmin, which will be reduced in price from $49.95USD to $29.95USD (around 30 Euros). Announcements by third party publishers are expected soon as well.
The news gets even better for those who are still deciding whether or not to buy a GameCube. With the purchase of the console at the MSRP of $149.95USD, gamers will be able to choose a free game from among Metroid Prime, Star Fox Adventures, Mario Party 4, and Resident Evil Zero. If that doesn't tickle your fancy, the price of the Super Mario Sunshine bundle has been dropped from $189.95USD to $159.95USD -- not bad at all for the game, console, and Memory Card 59.

"These three offers are about giving players what they want -- great entertainment at a great value," says George Harrison, senior vice president, marketing and corporate communications, Nintendo of America Inc. "For less than $150, players will find a world of quality only available with Nintendo."

well I already got Sunshine and Metroid, my only GC games, and I love them but god damn xbox LIVE is keeping me away from all my singleplayers lol. Gotta get back into those 2, and SC, and Shenmue2.. Shit I need to start playing my singleplayers again and then start Ocarina of Time next week to get ready for Wind Waker.

W00T! I just got back from buying it at Bestbuy! I tried EBgames as I had $50 credit but they wouldn't let me combine the two deals, "Sunshine" bundle at $159 & a free Metroid Prime w/ Gamecube purchase, because the special for a free game is only with a $149.99 Gamecube, not the "Sunshine" bundle. So I went over to BestBuy and asked if I could get the "Sunshine" bundle w/ a free game and they said no problem!

I've just spent $160 on a Gamecube, a memory card, and 2 games! That comes out to only paying $50 for the system! Talk about badass!

I'm going back to EBgames and putting that $50 credit on a preorder for Zelda! :D

damn, nice deal you got there Vicman.

Gamecube is $259 in Canada I think, so I'll only pick one up if they get Nights into Dreams 2 as an exculsive.

Oh, and is Star Fox like a collector's item now? Just curious.

EDIt, that magic box site has a kick ass header.
