Does this sound possible....

I don't recall were I heard it, it might have been an old forum of mine, but awhile back, they were reporting that Atari had bribed some local magazines into giving their then new game, Driver 3 a decent review....

Since I don't have a source for this news, it is probably hearsay, but it just struck me as odd that they would accuse Atari of something like this. Especially since I have played the game, and thought the magazines had given a fair review of it...

Has anyone else heard this garbage????

Re: Does this sound possible....

Well, I'm pretty sure it happens. I never heard of a company or mag/ site getting caught however, but bribes probably do happen. Even if it's something we don't pay much attention to. For example, a company might want their game to be on a mag's front cover, and who know, they might pay the magazine company for this. It shouldn't stir up the industry though. Gamers know a good game when they see one, and reviews these days don't mean anything, if you know what you're looking for in a game.

Re: Does this sound possible....

Yeah it's probably true. Just the other day one of the developers of a title OXM reviewed busted the magazine by saying the things the review mentioned didn't even exist in the game itself.

So much like George Bush Junior, buying his way into office by fixing the Florida recounts, this kind of thing happens in the gaming world, too.
Kinda makes you think, doesn't it?

It happenes a hell of alot with big games like GTA where the publisher threatens to withhold their games, creator interviews, and the like from a mag if they don't give the game a really high score.
