Building a Comp

I was thinking about building a comp that would mostly be used for playing games.

I was just wondering what your guys suggestions would be on what parts to buy and what to stress heavily. I have no clue on building comps and my friends will be doing most of the work but I havent got in touch with them yet so I figured I would come here first.

Like just list what graphics card, cpu, sound card etc and what the final price would be around thanks.

well all depends on your price range and how good of a computer u want. i'm makeing me a new one will cost me 600 bucks not includeing a monitor ,hard drive, and video card.

but back to u . do u want a anthlon or intel?? do u plan on overclocking?? do u want the fastest video card or a good one that will hodl u over till the next big 1 comes out ?? sooo many questions, give more info that your looking for besides gameing comp .

and i woudl stress heavily on the memory , dont' get some generic piece of shit

Sorry

umm intel or amd doesn't really matter to me because I dont know thier differences. As far as memory and graphics card goes, I would def get at least 512 mb of ram and the video card doesnt have to be the fastest but one where I could play games like warcraft III and Unreal Tournament 2003 w/o any lag.

Overclocking even though I have no clue how to do it I heard its good so I will prob go through with it. Is thier any disadvantages to overclocking?

$122 (W/ S&H)

Nova VA-5874 socket A motherboard and a AMD Athalon XP 2400+ 384k 266FSB OEM proccessor.

$166 (W/ S&H)

Gainward nVidia Ti 4400, Ultra 700TV 128MB DDR, DVI/TV-OUT, Golden Sample 6 layers 3.6nSec.

Total: $288

There is a ton more crap you can and should buy like a new case with good space inside and lots of cooling options and so on. But this is the core of what you will need and you can easily get by with just these two components and have a pretty nice gaming rig.

(You CAN go with even faster and better components, I was just trying to make it the best possible for as cheap as possible for you.)

well if u go with a amd cpu i would strongly suggest a nforce2 mobo. and i would never get a oem cpu *or any other vitial part*.

and advantage for overclocking is cpu goes faster *more bang for your buck as they say*... disadvantage, sometimes hard to do,may need to invest in water cooling *especially if u over clock a amd*, may burn out your cpu then your ****ed ,sooo i wouldn't do it if u have no idea what your doing :D

yeah that would suckk

Anyone know what's the cheapest price I can get for a highend AMD CPU/MB + ATI GC???

just a warning, i built mine i have a ok size case 2 amd 1800+mps, 2 cpu fans, and 3 others on case. it froze so much from overheating i needed to open the case and put a house fan next to it to keep its cool. getting a big case and good fans is a good idea. u can get a ge force 4 440mx for a card to hold u over it would play wc3 and unreal fine cpu is up to what u want, memory id get 756+ with life time warrenty helps alot when it comes to load times. as for hard drives heard baracuda i heard were nice. if your doing it your self make sure u know what your doing its not the easest thing to do and it can get fustrating

no i have a A7M266-D ASUS mobo was looking at that mobo but i liked the features on this one better cant remember what they are now tho

Re: Building a Comp

If I were you I would get an intel with hyperthreading. Im building a system too, but im not looking to overclock. One cool proc. mobo combo is the intel d85pe mobo, which includes 800mh fsb with HP spport, 5 pci sockets, 4gb of ddr ram and 8 usb ports. And to go with it a 2.4 gh 800mhz bus and 512cache. You cant ask for a more stable combo, even though you cant overclock you dont need to. As for hard drives I always go with WD but theres also better and quieter ones. Always go with god storage space and search time. Also an 8mb buffer is also great. As for video which is one of the most important hardware for gamers, I would go with nvidia. The one im going for is256mb with a max res of 2048x1536 with a refresh rate of 85hz. Sound is also something you might want to look at. But to save money you could just get a good pair of head fones to do the job. Search for a good case that allows for multiple fans ( important for highend comp). Since with this setup you can't overclock then no watercooling is necessary but some nice fans are needed to keep the heat down. especialy when playing fulll screen and there is alot of video information(video card does get hot).

If you got anymore questions feel free to ask.

You know overclocking isnt a good idea unless you know what you are doing. If you overclock you need to make sure your Proc. stays cool cus it will overheat with a standard heat sink. If you want to keep it cheap just buy some basic components and everything will be good. If your not looking to spend tons of money, tell whoever is building you pc to head over to newegg.com (assuming he knows what hes doing) and tell him to pik out the best items for your price range. And trust me they have the best prices.
