Bjork in Dancer in the Dark: the musical where everything goes wrong 
Well, I finally found a place that had it on DVD for rent. Its very rare that I\'ll watch any kind of musical but I decided to give this one a shot partly because Bjork stars in it. It also has small but well acted roles by Peter Stormare(Fargo) and Udo Kier(Blade).
Its basically the story of an immigrant, Selma Jezkova, coming to America during what seems the 1960\'s and sacrificing to make her son\'s life better, in this case earning money for an operation to save her son from heriditary blindness before she herself goes blind. Life is hard for Selma but it seems hopeful she\'ll finally reach her goal to pay for her son\'s operation. One of the main themes of the movie is Selma\'s fascination with musicals and throughout the story you\'ll see a few enacted in her daydreams, usually when she is working in the factory or dealing with the stress of her fading eyesight.
For a while it seems like she\'s close to reaching her goal until she\'s fired from her factory job and her disturbed landlord robs her of the savings she was putting away. After that everything basically goes to hell eventually leading to a tragic ending that\'ll stay with you after you see it.
I\'m not sure if I like the movie enough to buy it but I\'m glad I saw it. I may watch it a second time before I return it to the video store.
