16-bit slogans....

Re: 16-bit slogans....

I'm guessing Sega with their cutting edge advertising aimed at 90's teens. Their advertising in America was a big deal and helped Sega grab over 60% market share just a few short years after Nintendo had over 90% market share with it's NES.

Re: 16-bit slogans....

Actually, it was Nintendo who encouraged gamers to play it Loud. It was shortly after the whole censorship thing, and I guess Nintendo was trying to make itself look 'cool'.

I agree with what you stated about Sega and their Genesis. Back then, Sega was right on with everything, marketing, advertising, and some killer apps.
And I am impressed that the Genesis was able to go head to head with the snes, despite its' age.
I was an Nintendo enthusist, so naturally, I bought an snes. But I also had a Genesis, later on with the Genesis 2....

Re: 16-bit slogans....

Sega used to use "Sega does what Nintendon't"

My friend who was a huge Nintendo fan, when I was a Sega fan, would always agrue of which company was better. When he heard the awful voices in the Genesis version of Street Fighter, he laugh when he found out Nintendo's new slogan was "Play it loud". He thought they were rubbing it in, due to the fact that Genesis had horrible voices in games.

Re: 16-bit slogans....

I remember that Slogan. If I am not mistaken, it was used shortly after the snes debuted. And I also recall the voices and such sounding terrible on the genesis, despite it having some kind of fm sound chip or something. I also recall some developers bragging about getting the genesis to display all of the available colors at a time, but since it was considerably lower than the snes, no one cared....

Herzog Zwei, a shooter for the genesis, was my fav game. Next to the Sonic games, and the vast rpg that dominated the console...
