Xbox owners...

I'm very fortunate to still have a launch Xbox, running perfectly, but lets just say your Xbox was to break down, would you run out and buy another one?

I'm not sure if I would...even for Splinter Cell 2. Might be the same situation that happened with my DC. It broke down about a year before Xbox's launch, so I saved up for Xbox instead. Found a used DC later on, and went back and got all the games I wanted...only now, they were used and a lot cheaper.

Re: Xbox owners...

My launch Xbox worked perfectly for years, then a month or so ago it started to mess up with DDE's more and more till I couldn't get through a single game. I tried removing and cleaning the DVD lens but it only fixed it for a couple of days. The fucking thompson drive was crapping out so I took the Xbox into EB and traded it in for $80 and put that towards a refurbished Xbox (sells for $149.99) with a samsung drive. It's been working perfect and I'm happy.

You could however do a Nas-T and buy one from Walmart and return your messed up xbox in it's place for a full refund. Nas-T had to yell at them when the Xbox came up as not the right one. While that's ballsy it can easily backfire on you. I'd suggest replacing whatever is wrong on yer old Xbox from the new one or even just switching cases! I've done that before with a Dreamcast and with Cartridges when I was a kid!

Alot...I'm not much of an xbox guy...I don't have one but would like to get one.....

What is a launch xbox?

Re: Xbox owners...

Launch Xbox is an Xbox that came out Nov.15, 2001. The very first day it went on sale. Many people are having problems with launch Xboxs. (The DVD drive to be exact)

Whats the difference between the launch xbox and xbox today?

Ummm... well when a company makes something they make a good amount of them, like 30,000 for 3 months worth of sales, then they make another 30,000 once the original bunch is dwindling... launch xbox's would be the first ones hot off the presses so to speak when the Xbox first hit store shelves.

Re: Xbox owners...

OK...but what is the difference in the box it self between the launch and the normal xbox??? Anything or is it just bugs that were fixed from the launch to the new?

Re: Xbox owners...

The Xbox has 3 different DVD drives depending on which one you own. A thompson that sucks and reads DVDs at 2x, a Phillips that's a bit better but still reads DVDs at 2x, and a Samsung that rocks hard because it never gives you Dirty Disc Errors and reads DVDs at 16x thus having quicker load and read times. The launch Xbox's had mainly Thompson drives so they are known to fuck up over time. The most recent Xboxes have Samsungs but not all. Fucking Microsoft refuses to stop using the thompson drvies in their Xboxes and thus keeps the problems with DDE's (Dirty Disc Errors) continuing.

Re: Xbox owners...

My launch XBox died so I did the Walmart switch and got a new one for free.
