Not as much as I thought it would be.

So I'm guessing that's 179.99 or 199.99 up here. Looks cool with the chrome, but is that just an early image of it?

Nope, thats the final design. The design they showed at E3 made everyone puke... so Nintendo decided they should change it.

Great! Now I might actually spring for one. As you said, the ealry design made it look cheap and corny, but I love the final design.

My only concern that hasn't been adressed, is whether or not this new portable will replace or kill the Gameboy. You know, since it will be backwards compatible, and all.
And I remain skeptical about the future of the ds, and whether or not many third partt publishers will supourt it...
But I guess that is normal for new consoles...

Re: Nintendo DS Price is....

Waste of money IMO, PSP is gonna be my next gen portable system of choice.

Re: Nintendo DS Price is....

Yeah. the psp will also make sony quite alot of money. However, I am going with the ds, cause I am a die hard Nintendo fan....
Nuff said.
Plus I heard that all the fancy psp features will drain the hell out of batteries...
But, then again, the ds probably will too.

Re: Nintendo DS Price is....

Look at the launch line up for the DS at EB. To me it's plentiful but not at all appealing. alot of rehashed games, seems nintendo is doing alot of that as of late across all their platforms.

Re: Nintendo DS Price is....

That may be true. All I have seen for the ds are a metroid Prime game, a version of Mario 64 with four players, and some kind of new "improved" side scrolling Mario game.

The only game that I am even remoteyl excited about on psp, is the Metal Gear Solid game. But considering the battery life, you probably wouldn't even get past the first cut scene before having to change the battery. Just kidding, cause I have heard like I stated before, that the psp will go through batteries like nothing.
On a side note, it will be interesting to see a competitor possibly de throne Nintendo's strangle hold on the portable market. Cause if Sony can do this, like it has in the consoles, then it truely will be Nintendo's last stand.....

Re: Nintendo DS Price is....

Dude, don't you think Sony is gonna deal with the purported battery life issue of the PSP? You keep harping on it like crazy and everyone knows that can be a portable's death knell, so what's the point of beating the issue to death? I'm pretty sure Sony knows full well and will try their best to rectify the issue if indeed the PSP doesn't play long. Personally I'm psyched so much for the PSP because it's a PS2 portable and that my friend is alot more impressive and to my tastes than a shoddy N64 portable. I say shoddy because the DS's graphics don't even look as good as the N64 even though that's what it's supposed to be, a portable N64 graphics-wise. Also with Nintendo's history I can already see a multitude of N64 rehashes on the way and frankly I'm dead tired of Nintendo continuing to do that over and over and over again ad infinitum.

I may have alot of retro fandom in me but it's mainly towards Sega and that's because unlike Nintendo they never rehashed their shit, at least not to Nintendo's ungodly extent, but instead continued to innovate even if it hurt them in the long run.

Re: Nintendo DS Price is....

I don't feel I have harped on it, but if that is how you feel, my bad.
I am sure that if anyone can make a portabvle successful against Nintendo, it coulld be Sony. Plus, the other companies making color portables in the past, Sega and NEC, found a away around the battery life, so like you said, I am sure they will as well.

And if you noticed, I gave Sony credit for doing so well against Nintendo in the console market.... I also agree that Nintendo needs to stop with the damn rehasing. How many times can they re-release the old NES Mario games before everyone loses interest? And I will also state the obvious here. In the past Atari nearly killed itself by rehashing their old games on their current consoles, 7800, anyone?

I have tons of respect for what Sega had accomplished in their life time. Coming from the cutt throat arcade world, they knew what made a great game....
