[Music spotlight] 1 GIANT LEAP
[Thought I'd try a different more extensive style of music review by just focusing on one group.]
1 GIANT LEAP:
A fascinating world music project intended to bring together different styles from musicians around the world to "celebrate unity in diversity".
A project like this could have easily turned out to be somekind of weak "can't we all just get along" P.C. garbage but they have managed to take recordings of a variety of music and singing styles from some of the world's best artists and blended them together into 12 great songs with some interesting lyrics. Aside from music they have also created two terrific music videos for the songs Braided Hair and the rap style song My Culture(Note: I'm not normally a big fan of rap music but I was impressed with this song partly due to it's positive lyrics).

Three years ago, Jamie Catto, film maker and founding member of Faithless and artist/producer Duncan Bridgeman, joined forces to create 1 Giant Leap. They embarked upon a global journey through 25 countries that included Senegal, Ghana, South Africa, Uganda, India, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, United States and United Kingdom, equipped only with laptop computers, a digital video camera, and a vision. Their vision: to capture and share with others the unique fusion of sound, image and spoken word from some of the world's most influential artists and musicians such as Neneh Cherry, Michael Stipe, Dennis Hopper, Asha Bhosle, Kurt Vonnegut and Baaba Maal.
